A theoretical physicist draws up a model for an ideal heat pump and, taking energy efficiency into account, concludes that the light must surely not remain powered when it isn't needed. An experimental physicist conducts many experiments and notices that when the refrigerator door is just barely open, the light is off. An engineer dissects the refrigerator and finds the switch that trips the light when the door closes. A stage magician locks himself inside a powered refrigerator and notices that it's quite dark. All four conclude that the light turns off when the door is shut.
A lawyer, on the other hand, spends half the time trying to make a plausible case for the light being on all the time. In the name of objectivity, a journalist combs the fields of lunacy high and low until he finds a source, no matter how questionable, to oppose the monolithic view of light-off-ism. An armchair philosopher hems and haws about the deeper meaning of refrigerator lights and concludes that the question is forever unanswerable (but that you should still listen to his answer).
A politician sends letters to his constituents warning them that refrigerator lights will be banned if his opponent wins the election. An energy company CEO figures out a way to make powering the refrigerator more expensive. A mathematician opens the refrigerator for food and is too preoccupied with proving things to notice the light.
